Although our offices remain closed with the COVID-19 crisis still prevalent locally and globally, we are actively implementing additional measures to ensure the health and safety of our dental team, our patients and families for when we can reopen. The measures are based on guidelines from the CDC, ADA and AAPD. We continuously monitor these guidelines and we will continue to make changes when necessary.

Such measures include increasing our infection control procedures and decreasing the number of patients/family members permitted in our office at any given time. We have also changed and increased the type of Personal Protective Equipment utilized by our dental team and we also purchased new and innovative technology to help eliminate aerosol products as a result of dental treatment. In addition to improving existing procedures, we have eliminated items from our offices such as books, magazines, stickers, balloons and toys that all have been deemed possible sources of cross contamination. We realize that some of these changes will be difficult for our keiki as we know how much they look forward to a balloon, sticker and prize at the end of their visit... but we will continue to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all of our patients so that they leave with a smile.

In order for us to continue providing your child with the best dental care in a safe environment, we ask that you contact us as soon as possible, but no later than 24 business hours prior to your scheduled visit, if you need to reschedule or cancel your child’s dental appointment to avoid a late cancel fee. If your child is feeling ill, has any flu-like symptoms or has been exposed to someone who has been recently confirmed positive for COVID-19, we ask that you kindly call our offices to reschedule your child’s appointment to a later date.

Please be aware that all patients (& accompanied parent) will be subject to a temperature reading  prior to entering our offices. This is for the safety and well being of other patients/families and our dental team.

We strive to continuously improve our procedures and treatment protocols and we truly appreciate your understanding and patience throughout these unprecedented times.  Our compassionate and caring dental team will help explain these new policies to you and will be happy to address any questions or concerns.

The Uchida Dentists and team look forward to continuing to provide excellent dental care for your child/family in a safe and nurturing environment. We will contact you in advance when we are ready to open back up and we look forward to seeing you again soon!

Your First Pediatric Dental Visit

When you arrive early for your first visit, you and your child will be greeted warmly. If you do have dental insurance, bring the information with you and our staff will file an electronic claim for you. We may need you to fill out forms that help you get acquainted with our office.

Your initial visit will provide a friendly, caring introduction to our dental home where lifelong relationships begin. The initial time spent with your child will include but not be limited to homecare instruction, nutrition counseling, growth & development evaluation, orthodontic evaluation as well as a comprehensive exam that will outline existing dental concerns.

When Should I Take My Child to the Dentist for the First Time?

The American Academy of Pediatrics and American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry both recommend that a child see a pediatric dentist within six months of the first tooth appearing, and no later than their first birthday. This should be the beginning of a positive relationship that will last through adolescence, between the dentist, the child and the parent. It also allows the dentist to monitor growth and development as the child grows, and catch any problems while they are still small and easy to treat. Our doctors gladly accept patients from infancy through adolescence.

Dr. Uchida is a very kind and caring Doc! He sees all 3 of my sons and they have no problem marching straight back to the office. When my youngest requires a filling he took great measures to ensure he was not afraid and performed the task as quickly as possible. We hope he never retires!!

My son has been going to the Kahala mall location since he was very young.  He is 16yrs old now. Dr. Clyde Uchida has been very professional and informative.  His staff is very friendly and efficient.

My boys have been going to Dr. Uchida for 6 years, and we have always had positive experiences.
